Characteristics of the Work

The self-portrait of the 21st century that cannot get out of the paradigm of money and power.
A square play,<Pig Party> that contains the self-portrait of lonely modern people who live under the cruelty like wars including free-market
economy, uniformity, and infinite competition. Through this work, we think about what value of life we should aim for in the structural
contradiction of capitalism, what we are running toward today, and what the social image of our future is.

Excellent harmony between Korean tradition and modern times, and the Eastern and Western musics. Wukumchi is an organization
specialized in outdoor theatricals, mainly inheriting Korean traditional performances and then recreating something modern.

<Pig Party> not only shows polished Korean traditional music filled with arranged folk songs and Jeongseon Arirang, but also expresses
the structural contradiction of capitalism such as modern people’s war, competition and material desires, with the western classical music,
Beethoven’s ‘Symphony No.5’, and ‘Moonlight Sonata’.

New challenge and experiment of outdoor performance, ‘Daedongnori’. The square play 'Pig Party' is not a performance just for watching.

Second, Daedongnori which is created and completed by both audience and actors together. Third, performance filled with images of movements and dance, music and sound Fourth, a play becomes a performance.

Characteristics of the Work

In the center of a garden, there are two huge stilts contacted to each other. Each audience writes down wishes and then hangs it on the stilts. When the huge stilts are moved to the each side of the stage,
the legend of Ssangmagol(village) is began.

Long time ago, Ssangma-gol used to be a real happy community in which each person was respected
and exerted sovereignty as an owner of the village, and labor force and production tools were operated in democratic methods by forming public opinions in the large garden.

Instead of thinking that you were separated from me, everyone thought that all things should live together just like lovers. On every July 7th in the lunar calendar, Ssangma-gol held a merry Daedongnori which was a stilts play worshiping the guardian gods of the village, Cheongma-sin(god) and Jeokma-sin(god), in order to strengthen the will of a group sharing a common destiny.

However, today Ssangma-gol has been changed to Donwang-gol(Money King Village) dominated by money and materials. In the current Donwang-gol, the war that kills each other is continued in the world filled with selfishness, competition, and endless desires for materials. Danggol Halmeom(old woman) appearing with a small white flag in the whirlpool of war feels sorry for their trampled and collapsed souls, and remembers the old image of Ssangma-gol in her memory.

The priest Danggol Halmeom who has looked after the village connecting the present to the past is about to face the time to leave the world now. For the last wish, Halmeom wants to see the affluent stilts play in the past before departing this life. Is the audience today going to show Daedongnori by moving the huge stilts just like her wish?
